Today it gets serious.
Now that we’ve made a lot of preparations for our new blog, today’s topic is how to write optimal posts.
To get straight to the point, there is no optimal way, of course; otherwise, all useful articles would look the same. 😉
But there are many things to watch out for to write the best possible posts.
I think a lot of writing down ideas for new articles immediately. I did not do that in the past and instead thought longer about an article and tried to work it out in detail in my mind. That had 2 disadvantages.
For one thing, I often woke up early, and the excellent article idea was gone, and I could not remember what it was all about. On the other hand, it blocks your thoughts. If I study an article intensively, then I lack “thinking resources.” During this time, I hardly get any ideas, etc. Therefore, I always disclose my thoughts and key points immediately; then, I have my head free again.
I gather these ideas together with bullet points in the draft folder of WordPress. This is also thought, and I find the ideas there quickly.
But which topics are best suited? Of course, that’s not exactly true. I have already written articles that I thought would be the big hit. But hardly anyone was interested. Conversely, it was already so.
Over time, you get a good feel for which topics are well received and which less.
Also, always worth a look is your statistics program.
I use Google Analytics, and it shows you how often specific articles have been read and how long.
Anyone who gets a little more intense gets a good look is the popular and less popular article.
If you have your RSS feed on Feedburner are offering, then there is also evaluating options.
There you can see how many views and how many clicks each post had in the feed. The more frequently an article is clicked by feed readers, the more interesting the topic seems to be for the readers.
Of course, it is also exciting to see how many comments the previous posts have received. The more comments, the more one seems to have hit the reader’s nerve with a topic.
It always helps me to take a step back and think about what my blog is missing. Which posts would round it off, and which posts would visitors find the best? Although this idea is a little subjective, often articles that you would like to read yourself are also very well received by your readers.
Overall, one should set a few priorities in the chosen niche and write articles about it. As an emphasis on a blog project, I have, for example, set the “blog start.” That’s why I started this article series specifically for this purpose.
News or background article?
There are many different types of article types. I do not want to list all of them here. Also, there is an extra article.
Two of the most important are the news and background articles. Both are very important for the success of a blog.
While news articles tend to be shorter, but very close in time to the topic in question and thus very successful in social news sites, for example, background articles are more timeless and longer.
The right mix is not a bad idea. But of course, some blogs publish only one type of article and thus drive well. However, I think variety is generally not harmful.
Headline and Title
Many people write the headline, the headline of an article, first. But that’s not necessarily the best course of action.
Instead, the headline should reflect the content of the article and, most importantly, its core message because the headline will appear in many links as anchor text and also in social news portals as the link text.
The headline is, therefore, almost more important for the “marketing” of your article outside your blog than directly in your blog. So one should not just write something like “It’s hard to start.” This may look good and fit right above the text in your blog, but if someone on the web sees that headline as a link, that’s not exciting, and you do not know what the article is about.
Instead, one should choose headlines that are attractive and arouse curiosity. “7 safe tips to lose 10 pounds in 4 weeks”. Since you know what to expect in the article and it is also aroused the curiosity, what are now these 7 tips.
There are many more tips for designing a headline in the next part of this article series.
The title of a post, on the other hand, is something else. This appears, for example, at the top of the browser and is very important for search engines. Therefore, you should enter the title manually by hand (this allows, for example, the Yoast SEO).
The title should contain the most important keyword at least once, if not several times. In addition, it does not hurt if the keyword is at the very beginning of the title. The title is more important than the meta tags “Keywords” and “Description.”
More on the title tag and meta tags in one of the following parts of this series. Then it is again more about SEO measures.
Of course, the most comprehensive topic is the text itself. There are many factors that need to be considered here. Just write it off is, of course, possible, but an optimal post will not be achieved.
The following factors play an essential role when writing an article text:
Articles on the web are harder to read than, for example, in a magazine. That’s why it’s essential to organize the information well. At the very beginning, you should briefly outline the content of the article and briefly discuss the main points. The reader should then know what to expect and why he should read the article.
After that, the article should follow in several sections. The sections are divided by headings, and this should be done by <H1> – <H6> day. The parts should lead to the solution before a final chapter summarizes and closes the content.
Pictures or photos are an essential element. Many bloggers do not bother to look for suitable pictures. But the effort is worth it because an article with matching pictures is much better recorded and often more comfortable to read.
Heels / Listings
Using paragraphs and collections makes it easier to scan posts, and a reader can quickly see if it’s worth reading the article properly. Unfortunately, I always see good articles, but they were written without a paragraph and a subheading in the running text. Since I immediately lost the desire to read and that’s a pity.
Therefore, one should choose short paragraphs and also summarize important points again and again in lists.
Easy to understand and clear
It should also be easy to write. So no snake sentences with 10 commas. It has been proven to mix short and long sentences. This results in a natural flow of reading, and that is better than just stringing short sentences or just long sentences one after the other.
In addition, one should put aside a bit of his school knowledge and prefer to repeat words instead of using synonyms or indirectly referring to something. During my self-employment, I always have clients who write very unclearly. For example, they refer to things that they wrote 3 times before.
Especially with longer background articles, you should, therefore, write clear and understandable and would rather repeat something or use the same keyword three times in a paragraph. That does not hurt the search engine optimization. 😉
With all the tips and hints, you should not forget that just a style is essential. So it’s not about bending or completely changing your writing style. The tips here should help to support and round off your style. The recognition value is also and especially crucial in blogging.
Nothing easy to chew
Whoever publishes news should not just play it. It depends on the news. The many other blogs is certainly synonymous to make something own.
One should contribute one’s own opinion and own experiences and bring in different aspects if necessary.
So if a new console game has appeared, then you should not just pass on this fact, but for example, to incorporate your own experience. Maybe you have had a lot of fun with the predecessor of the game. Or you have an opinion about the developer and can incorporate this. That makes the article unique.
For search engines, an article should already have at least 200-300 words, because otherwise it is not really perceived by the Sumas. This may sometimes be difficult at the beginning, but with a bit of practice, it will be easier for you to write more extensive articles. Of course, you should not inflate your content with meaningless content, but there are usually meaningful content that you can bring into an article.
I will certainly treat this again in an extra article. One should already make sure that an article is formatted for reading. In addition to the above outline and paragraphs/listings, you should pay attention to increase the line spacing slightly (line-height 1.3 em;). This helps a lot with reading.
Also, the text should be left-aligned and not in block-type. This is because when you read the individual lines at the end of the line-oriented. Everything is in the block sentence; one slips very easily.
The text color is essential and should fit the background. After all, the text should not cause any eye pain. Yellow on blue is not that cheap. 😉
Since writing is a very broad topic in itself, I will go back to it in separate articles. With the tips mentioned here, the article but should be alright.
This is probably the fear that someone could leave their blog if he clicks on a link. This fear is unfounded. Because in addition to good content, readers are looking for one thing above all: good links.
Who links useful and exciting pages in his article, who loses no readers, but only increases the value of his article. This pleases readers, and they come back.
In addition, nothing speaks against also within the own blogs to link suitable articles. 🙂
Who are you writing for?
First of all, of course, you write for the readers. Because these are the articles like, so they come back, link the article, vote on social news sites the article, etc.
Therefore one should think of one’s own readers when writing an article.
But without SEO, it just does not work. That’s why you should think a bit about Google.
At least that’s my approach, and it has been quite successful so far. If you think that its contents are so good that you do not have to think about search engine optimization, I wish you every success.
And search engine optimization is a form of marketing and not even reprehensible. Google itself has published a whole series of tips.
One more word about keywords. For successful bloggers, they form the backbone of their own articles.
Since you write not only for readers but also for search engines, you should be in (almost) every post about it, which is the most important keyword that you want to serve with an article.
In my article on the blog headlines, it was the keyword “headlines.”
After I realized that, I also optimized the text for these two keywords. I did not overdo it but used it again and again in the text of one of the two keywords. Even if I could have used a synonym, for example, or could have used “she” or “this” instead of the headline keyword.
Search engines are simple machines. No matter how mature the evaluation by Google is, but in the end, it is a machine, and if on the whole page and also in the text a certain word occurs more frequently, then it is weighted more heavily by Google. But, of course, there are other factors that I can talk about, as I said, in an extra article.
So think about the main keyword along with one or the other related keywords and use it more frequently in your text as well as in Headline, Title. the meta-statements etc.
With the keyword density tool, you can check if the main keyword is too rare or too frequent. It should be quite high on the list.
With the can analyze a text in a word out. Not only the text but also the meta tags, the title, links, headlines, etc. are analyzed.
There, the term should appear as possible everywhere, but you do not have to achieve very high% values in the text. It is only essential that the condition occurs relatively frequently.
The keyword ” backlinks ” reaches in the backlink article, for example, a share of 0.72%. But also on the other side elements, the keyword occurs, in part, of course, much more common (relatively speaking).
So to the 1-2% in the actual body text would be better, but I would not recommend more. For shorter articles, the value is usually a bit higher, for very long articles rather lower.
The sometimes published 5-7% are not necessary and would not necessarily contribute to the reading pleasure of the visitors.
Anyone who mentions his most important search term only once in the text, in any case, gives away potential.
It is not about writing an optimal post. But there are many factors to consider. Because the posts of a blog are the most important part, and here you can do a lot wrong, both in terms of the readers, as well as in the field of marketing.
Therefore, you should look at the tips listed above and then try to develop your own best practices. I also do not use all the tips optimally, but I have acquired an effective workflow, in which I implement many of these tips and best practices automatically and unconsciously.
The topic “writing articles” is a very extensive one, and therefore, you should not put yourself under pressure. Just write with your readers in mind and try to optimize your articles bit by bit. Pay a little more attention to SEO, there a little more on a good structure and structure of the article, etc. With time, you’ll get better, because only practice makes perfect. 🙂
In that sense, I would like to finish the topic for today. The next part continues with the design of the headline. These are very important, and therefore, I will treat the headlines separately again.
